Curtin University to hold International Festival
Curtin University Malaysia welcomes members of the public to join its International Festival (iFest) 2019 to be held on May 18 at the university's Frisbee field.
Organising chairman Saqib Ahmed Khan said the festival is organised by Curtin Malaysia's International Students Association (ISA) and Student Council.
“The iFest is a yearly event and the theme for this year is ‘World without Borders'. The main objective of the event is to showcase the diversities that we have in the university. Currently, our campus has about over 500 foreign students.
“Thus, this iFest will provide the best opportunity for the people in Miri to get a clear picture on the different cultures which will be showcased by the foreign students from various countries such as Philippines, Zimbabwe, Thailand, Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Middle East, China and many others,” he said in a press conference at Miri City Council (MCC) yesterday.
Saqib added that the festival will be from 5pm until 10pm.
“Various activities have been lined up for the festival such as food sale in country booths, cultural performances, fashion show and colour fest.
“The opening ceremony for the event is at 7pm.”
He said for the first time, participating students will present the monument of their respective countries during the festival.
Earlier, Curtin Malaysia's corporate communications manager Nicholas Leong led the iFest 2019 organising committee for a courtesy call on Miri mayor Adam Yii and handed to Yii an invitation letter for him to be the guest of honour for the festival.
