Malaysia stand good chance to host 2020 GG World Cup
Malaysia stand a good chance to host the 2020 Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) World Cup, says Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (Magga) president, Datuk Radha Krishnan.
He said this was based on the strong support Malaysia received from several Asian countries such as Japan, Australia and South Korea to organise the annual tournament.
Radha was optimistic that Malaysia would be given the chance to host the tournament despite two other countries - Kazakhstan and Estonia - also planning to place their bids to the International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (IFAGG) in Catalonia, Spain, this week.
“Two of our representatives, namely secretary general, Sarah Mohammed Ameen Sarraj and treasurer, Choo Kim Lian will be flying to Catalonia, Spain later tonight to table the bid to IFAGG, and the final results would be announced on Thursday (Friday in Malaysia),” he told a press conference, here, yesterday.
Radha said should Malaysia succeed in their bidding, the association estimates over 1,500 participants from 25 countries would take part in the tournament, adding that Magga had identified the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam and Titiwangsa Stadium, here, as the potential venues for the event.
On a similar note, Radha said the association would be organising two tournaments as part of their preparations for the 2020 AGG World Cup, namely the Total Gym International Tournament from Aug 15-18 in Cyberjaya and the Unity Cup, slated to be held in Ampang on December which is only open to local participants.
Earlier, Radha was met by reporters after handing over cash rewards and in kind of Universal Fitness and Leisure (UFL) products totalling RM5,600 to all 28 athletes and coaches following their positive outing at the 2019 AGG World Cup in Singapore last month.
