CM played big part in DAP’s landslide victory in Sandakan — Phoong

DAPSY national publicity secretary cum Luyang assemblyma­n Phoong Jin Zhe said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Haji Apdal and his party Warisan played a big part in the betterthan-expected victory of DAP candidate in the just-concluded Sandakan by-election.

He said Shafie and other Warisan leaders as well as members worked tirelessly in giving their best efforts to help secure victory for Vivian Wong.

“I would like to specifical­ly highlight the guidance and full support from our Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Haji Apdal to Vivian by going houseto-house and giving speeches to the people of Sandakan, especially at Muslim and formerly BN stronghold­s such as Pulau Berhala and Kampung Sim-Sim,” said Phoong, who was the DAP campaign publicity manager in the by-election.

“As what Lim Guan Eng said, Shafie is the real ‘bossku’ in Sabah.

“I believe our Chief Minister, who through this by-election has shown to the federal government that he is indeed a strong and capable ally who leads a politicall­y stable state government and who is committed in maintainin­g the relationsh­ip between Warisan and PH,” he said

Phoong also thanked all Sandakan voters for voting wisely and courageous­ly for Sandakan so that DAP can continue on the legacy of late Datuk Stephen Wong.

“As member of the ruling party both at state and federal level, we believe DAP and Vivian will be able to bring greater developmen­t and prosperity to the people of Sandakan.

“Not forgetting the help and assistance of all component and allied parties, be it federal or state, for visiting Sandakan and joining our candidate Vivian for walkabouts and talks during the campaign period.

“The Sandakan by-election not only marks a victory for Sabah and for DAP in rejecting the former corrupt government under BN but a celebratio­n of the unity and comradeshi­p expressed by all component parties under the leadership of the new Pakatan Harapan coalition in this new Malaysia,” he said.
