Inti Sabah degree programmes head earns PhD
KOTA KINABALU: Inti College Sabah’s School of Degree Programmes head Dr Athanasia Nointin recently earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in business management while working at the tertiary institute.
Her PhD findings shared recommendations to address employee turnover.
Inti College Sabah chief executive Roselyn Chua said Athanasia’s success demonstrates Inti’s efforts to uphold academic excellence amongst staff and students.
“Academic excellence increases an individual’s access to more employment opportunities and in securing higher salaries than their counterparts,” she said in a press release.
Chua added Athanasia’s intellectual skills combined with extensive industrial experience will provide students the opportunity to gain deeper insights into industry trends and challenges, along with quality academic results.
A driving force for many, Athanasia is one of the leading ladies at Inti, who influences change in the organisation.
She first earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) ( Marketing) from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sabah.
“Upon graduating with my degree, I spent a brief time teaching secondary school students. This experience formed my love as an academician along with my passion for giving back to the community through education,” she said.
“I moved into the business sector to build up my professional competencies and spent close to 20 years in business operations and management from diverse industries, including a total of nine years in the travel and tourism sector. After a year in the tourism industry, I decided to set up my own travel and tour company.”
She observed the persistent challenges of employee turnovers and its impact on the travel and tourism industry’s organisations, and sought to develop longterm solutions.
This led her to pursue her Master of Business Administration and later her PhD.
