Joint study on Kadamaian Devt Master Plan

KOTA KINABALU: The Institute for Development Studies (IDS) Sabah, with cooperation from Pejabat Perhubungan Ahli Dewan Undangan (Adun) Kadamaian, Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat ( UPPM) Kadamaian and Kota Belud District Office, is conducting a study for a Kadamaian development master plan (2020-2035).

Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the study, beginning in May 2019, spans a six-month period and was expected to be launched by the Chief Minister in January 2020.

“In March this year, I approached IDS to help with a study to prepare the master plan as a guide. I also sought input from the Kadamaian local community and other strategic partners, to convey to the government what necessary development should take place in Kadamaian.

“This study will be conducted from May to November this year, and we will invite Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal to launch the master plan in January next year,” he said, after receiving a courtesy call by IDS top management, led by Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Johan Ariffin Samad.

Ewon, who is also Kadamaian assemblyman, further said he aspired to see sustainable development there in two main sectors, tourism and agriculture, which rely on solid basic infrastructure and agricultural entrepreneurial activities.

“The study will be conducted using the bottom-up approach, with findings from the grassroots, namely from the Majlis Pengurusan Komuniti Kampung (MPKK) committee from 74 villages throughout Kadamaian. These findings will be the main input in preparing for the master plan.

“I will also hold meetings between IDS and members of the Kadamaian development negotiation council, which I had set up last year,” he added.

Ewon added that the study was an aspiration he included in his campaign during the 14th General Election last year, to execute a development master plan for Kadamaian based on the aspirations of its community.

He also thanked IDS for making the study as its main project this year.

Present during the courtesy call were Kota Belud District Officer Hajah Doris William @ Diyanah Abdullah, Assistant District Officer (Development) Peter Jiton and Assistant District Officer (Administration) Abd Wahab Sidek.
