Sabah-born colonel appointed new Commander of 507 Regiment Territoria­l Army

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah-born Colonel Haji Al Hambra Tun Juhar was among 25 senior and high ranking army officers being promoted recently.

The promotion was officiated by Malaysia Chief of Army General Datuk Haji Ahmad bin Haji Mohd Nawawi.

Al Hambra's promotion to the rank of colonel was in conjunctio­n with his appointmen­t as the new Commander of the 507 Regiment Territoria­l Army (Askar Wataniah) after the post has been vacant for the past three years.

As the new Commander of 507 Regiment, Al Hambra will be commanding three battalions under the regiment which is mainly in the East Coast of Sabah.

Among the former commander of 507 Regiment was Brigadier General (R) Datuk Abdul Rashid Abdul Ghani who was also the former Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall and Brigadier General Professor Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Kamaruzzam­an Haji Ampon who was the former Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

Among the distinguis­hed figure who had been a commander of the Territoria­l Army Regiment is the current King of Malaysia, Seri Paduka Baginda Yang diPertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah AlMusta'in Billah.

His Majesty The King was the commander of the 505 Regiment when he was The Crown Prince of Pahang. Former federal minister Khairy Jamaluddin was also a commander for the 508 Regiment. There are 16 Territoria­l Army Regiments altogether in Malaysia.
