Fantasia Run and Down Syndrome Buddy Walk

KOTA KINABALU: The Fantasia Run 2019 and Down Syndrome Buddy Walk will be held on June 23 from 6am to noon at Likas Stadium.

This is the third Fantasia Run organised by Kota Kinabalu Down Syndrome Associatio­n (PSDKK) in cooperatio­n with Valiant.

Fantasia Run is an eight-km run through the hills and nature park of Kota Kinabalu. All registered runners will receive a medal, tshirt, runner bib and e-cert upon completion of the run.

There is also a virtual run where the public can participat­e from outside Kota Kinabalu. Registered Virtual Run participan­ts will receive their packs via post. To register please visit Facebook http:// facebook.com/Fantasia Run 2019.

This year's annual Down Syndrome Buddy walk will be in its ninth year and is a 2.5km leisurely walk alongside family, friends and supporters with Down syndrome individual­s. Nonpartici­pating public may also interact and connect with PSDKK members to learn more about the Down Syndrome and its challenges.

PSDKK is a registered nonfor-profit organisati­on in Sabah. Members are family members with children and adults with Down Syndrome in Kota Kinabalu.

It also has volunteer members to help with activities and events who share its vision and hope for a better future for individual­s with Down Syndrome.

Among its objectives are as follows:

To enhance awareness and understand­ing of those with Down Syndrome and help them towards some independen­ce and inclusivit­y with the society.

To give support and guide for individual­s with Down Syndrome and to their families who are caring for them

To conduct short courses, workshops, seminars and various activities benefittin­g those with Down Syndrome

To champion and advocate the needs of those with Down Syndrome in respect of medical, education, social and employment.

It also work closely with other Down Syndrome Society i.e Persatuan Sindrom Down Malaysia and other special needs organizati­ons to leverage and increase awareness and inclusion of its members with the community.
