Dialogue to address China investors' concerns
The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu will arrange for China investors in Sabah to attend a dialogue with the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) to address the investors' concerns and challenges in order to create a more conducive business environment in the state. SCCC president Datuk Frankie Liew and his committee, together with Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Chak Wah Cheun, paid a courtesy visit to the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu Liang Caide here to discuss the operations of China investors in Sabah, including issues pertaining to labour, financing and migration policy.
The discussion also included concerns about tourists heading straight to domestic transit without immigration clearance and getting their passports stamped.
Liew said SCCC aimed to facilitate bilateral trade between Sabah and China, as well as to disseminate information between the governments and people in Sabah and China.
"By compiling the issues faced by businesses, we could help to reflect the situation to the relevant authority and find solutions to the problems."
Hence, Liew said the chamber had requested the assistance from the Chinese consulate in organizing a dialogue between Chinese investors and SCCC.
Meanwhile, Chak said he would compile a report on the issues faced by China investors and tourists to brief the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal in an effort to resolve the problems.
Liew thanked Liang and Chak for their assistance and support.
He hoped that the dialogue, coupled with business-friendly policies and high efficiency from the government, would ensure smooth running of Chinese investment projects in Sabah, thereby attracting more investors to the State, particularly under the Belt and Road initiative.
Also present was SCCC deputy president Datuk Soh Poh Soon.
