Chua: Infrastructure and security have improved in Inanam

-

KOTA KINABALU: Inanam has seen much improvement in terms of its basic infrastructure, traffic situation and security.

Its assemblyman, Kenny Chua, said roads had been upgraded, streetlights lit, traffic congestion mitigated and illegal activities reduced.

Chua added that with the help from City Hall, the Customs Department and the police, selling of contraband cigarettes in Inanam had been reduced quite tremendously.

Speaking to reporters after a press conference on Inanam District annual Pesta Kaamatan celebration here yesterday, Chua pointed out that the security in Inanam had also improved.

“One issue we are looking at now is the presence of squatters in the district. We are working closely with the Sepanggar member of parliament and City Hall on this matter and are in the midst of looking for a proper site to relocate the local squatters. We are in the process of gazetting a few areas as kampung, so will relocate them there,” said the Assistant Finance Minister.

He added that a formula had been worked out with the state Public Works Department (PWD) and City Hall towards resolving the traffic congestion issue in Inanam.

Chua also expressed his gratitude to property developers with projects in and around Inanam for agreeing to help out in solving the traffic congestion problem as it could also affect their developments.

According to him, Inanam also has many tourism attractions such as Kokol Hill, Kionsom Waterfall and the Mari Mari Cultural Village.

“There are another two beautiful waterfalls in Bongkud Manggatal and Kampung Ruminding here which are well known with the locals.

“We will help to upgrade the facilities and infrastructure, especially the roads leading to these two places.

“This will make the areas more accessible to visitors to go in. I have asked for the allocation to implement the improvements,” he said.

On preparations for the rainy season, Chua said he had briefed all the concessionaires involved in the maintenance and cleaning of drains to take the necessary steps to prevent flash flooding.

City Hall is aware of the matter, he said adding: “We had meetings with engineers from the relevant government departments too. We cannot solve all the problems but we can at least minimise them and I am waiting for federal funding to implement the flood mitigation project in Inanam,” he said.
