RM47,580 unregister­ed Chinese herbs seized

SANDAKAN: A total of 9,516 boxes of Chinese traditiona­l supplement products that are not registered with the Health Ministry and suspected to contain poison, were seized by the marine police on Tuesday.

District 4 Marine Police Team Commander ACP Hj Mohamad Pajeri Bin Ali said that the herbs worth about RM47,580 were seized during Ops Landai conducted at about 10am on Tuesday, a er intelligen­ce informatio­n was received from the Marine Intelligen­ce Unit.

Pajeri said that the products are now hot-selling in Sabah.

“The items were seized from a lorry parked by the roadside near Hsiang Garden, Bandar RamaiRamai. The marine police have also detained two local men, age 36 and 63, who are suspected owners of the traditiona­l medicine of various brands - Lin-Zi Chongsunta­n, LinZi Chuang- Yao Wan, Senchow Tan and Ginseng Jin Fui Wan.

“The suspects were moving the boxes into the lorry at the time of the arrest,” Pajeri said.

He added that one officer and four Sandakan Marine Police personnel were involved in the operation.

He said that the case was still under investigat­ion to detect more parties, believed involved in storing the products.

“The products are suspected to contain poison. We believe that the crime involves a syndicate that stores and distribute­s the items not only in Sandakan, but its surroundin­g districts.

Pajeri said that the case was investigat­ed under Pharmacy Act 1951 for breaking Regulation 7 (1) (a) and Regulation 30 (1) under Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulation­s 1984, punishable under Section 12 (1) of Sale of Drugs Act 1952 if found guilty.

Shop owners have been warned to obey the law and not sell products that are not registered with the Health Ministry.

Pajeri also asked for the cooperatio­n from members of the public who have informatio­n on the selling of unregister­ed items to contact the police for further action.
