Man wants to withdraw assault report against brother

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday deferred to June 12 the case of a man charged with trying to injure his teenage brother with a machete.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie deferred the case of Shahrizan Saudin @ Sadin, 35, after his brother, who was present in court, informed that he wished to withdraw the police report against the accused, when the case came up for trial.

The accused’s brother testified that he wanted to retract his report on his own volition and on ‘humanitarian grounds’.

“What I meant on ‘ humanitarian grounds’ is that I wanted to give my brother another opportunity to change,” said the victim, when asked by prosecuting officer Inspector Lim Swee Beng.

“In your report, you (the victim) alleged that you saw the accused sniffing glue and you became angry, so is he still sniffing glue?” Lim questioned. The victim answered: “Not anymore.” However, the victim said that he is not staying under the same roof with the accused.

Lim then applied for a new date from the court, pending instruction from the deputy public prosecutor’s office.

The accused had claimed trial for the a empt to cause hurt to the victim with the sharp weapon outside an unnumbered house at Kampung Unggun Jaya in Manggatal at 11.30 pm on February 6.

Shahrizan is currently released on RM2,000 bail with two local sureties as granted when the case was first brought to court on February 12.
