PENAMPANG: Police have arrested three suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a cybercafe here last month.

Penampang police chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the suspects, known as Gang Pang Loong, were believed to behind the robbery on April 20.

“On the day of the incident, the suspects entered the premises armed with meat cleavers, and threatened the caretaker of the premises to hand to them the cash register machine which contained RM600 cash.

“The suspects also threatened customers inside the premises to hand over to them their respective cell phones before they fled the scene in a waiting drive-away car.

“Following the incident, police from both the Penampang police contingent (IPD Penampang) and the Kota Kinabalu police contingent (IPD KK) collaborated in a manhunt operation to catch the suspects.

“Three weeks after the incident, the police managed to apprehend the mastermind, in his 20s, at an apartment in Dongonggon on May 12.

“Continuous investigation then led the IPD KK police to the arrests of the remaining two suspects in the state capital, whereby the police also recovered about RM800 worth of stolen items,” he said at a press conference at the Penampang police headquarters here, yesterday.

Police are now hunting for the fourth suspect who is still at large. The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery and gangrobbery.
