Petronas releases Kaamatan, Gawai Webfilms

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas yesterday released its muchawaited Hari Kaamatan and Hari Gawai Webfilms and television commercials to celebrate the upcoming festivities in Sabah and Sarawak.

The two stories emphasise the gift of life, reflecting the Anugerah Kita or blessings theme for 2019, a reminder that no matter what the circumstances, we must always cherish precious moments in life.

The Kaamatan Webfilm titled “Kinoulian”, which means homecoming in Dusun language, showcases the rich Sabahan culture, featuring rituals and traditions that celebrate togetherness. It tells the story of a young Sabahan and her family's journey back to their roots, to celebrate Hari Kaamatan. The story highlights that tradition and forgiveness binds families together and keeps cultures alive.

Meanwhile, the Gawai Webfilm “Baju Burung Apai” is named after a traditional attire worn by the head of an Iban family. The Webfilm tells the story of a Sarawakian father embarking on a quest to unite his siblings to celebrate Gawai together.

Petronas Senior General Manager of Group Strategic Communications, Zahariah (Liza) Abdul Rahman said: “In essence, Hari Kaamatan and Hari Gawai are celebrated for the same universal values centred on anugerah, which is the blessings bestowed upon us. Petronas is happy to pay homage to two great celebrations in Sabah and Sarawak where the Company has grown alongside the people and communities. In these stories, we highlight family, tradition and our shared values as Malaysians, presented in a manner that is uniquely Sabahan and Sarawakian.

“The Kaamatan story zooms in on a small family's struggle in overcoming a conflict in the past, hoping to reconnect the young with the older generation, while the Gawai Webfilm reveals the intricacies of a large family healing from an old wound, only to be made whole again. Do look out for the ending scene which is an absolute visual treat for all,” she added.

The two 4-minute TV commercial versions will be aired from 18 May until 23 June 2019 while viewers may log on to Petronas' official YouTube channel to view the Webfilms from today onwards. - Bernama
