PH govt to last a long time — Kit Siang

-

SIBU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) adviser Lim Kit Siang says the Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) landslide victory in the Sandakan by-election last week is indication that the PH will be the government for a long time.

Speaking to reporters after attending a forum titled ‘After Sandakan, it’s Sarawak!’ at Medan Hotel here on Thursday night, he said PH will sustain 15th General Election and beyond because building a new Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah will take years if not decades.

“Their (BN’s) hope is that PH will be one-termer and will collapse by the time of the 15th General Election,” he said.

He said the forum is important in the building of a new Sarawak as part of new Malaysia, particularly in the return of autonomy power of Sabah and Sarawak in accordance with the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“It would be easier to develop this process when you have PH government in the Putrajaya and hopefully a state government to cooperate in this process instead of having one which is hostile and unfriendly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bukit Assek assemblywoman Irene Chang believed PH’s victory in the Sandakan by-election can be repeated in the forthcoming Sarawak State Election.

“The question is whether Sarawakians want it,” she said.

Transforming Malaysia after it had been under 60 years of corrupted government is never easy, she pointed out.

She said: “No matter how rich and how able the country is, if you have a corrupt government, society will never prosper because all these money will go to certain pockets only.

“PH government might not be doing fantastically well at the moment, but we have to know that what we are doing at the moment is to get rid of the root cause and that is corruption.”

Chang said PH government has put in place certain measures to weed out corruption.

“I believe PH government is doing its best, and there are still more to come if everybody comes together for the nation transformation effort,” she said.
