Two Sabahans among national archers for World championship
KOTA KINABALU: Two Sabahans will attempt to reap the whirlwind at the s'-Hertogenbosch 2019 World Archery Para Championship + PG QT Para World Ranking in the Netherlands, next month.
Ramdi Rahimin (compound men) and Charlie Jikulis (recurve men) sowed the wind after impressive performances earned them national representation in a selection shootout at the Paralympic Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur, recently.
Ramdi, who trains with the national team, was ranked number two, while Charlie, who trains in Kota Kinabalu under state coach, Paul Leong, ranked third in the four-day trial, last month (April 23-26).
Ramdi and Charles, joined by six others, started centralised training at the archery range in Likas, two days ago.
They will be training until May 25 before departing for the championship, which is slated for June 3-9.
“The team will get nine days of windy conditions in their centralised training program,” said Sabah Disabled People's Sports and Recreation Club (PESRON) president Tan Hwa Koon.
“They will compete in a mini friendly tournament, which will feature SUKMA 2018 Best Sportsman Eugenius Lo and other top Sabahan archers before departing for Kuala Lumpur en route to the Netherlands,” Tan added.
Others in the squad, aside from Ramdi and Charlie, are Morogen A/ L Komoran, Wiro Julin, Nor Sa'adah Abdul Wahab, Jennyla Anak Kueh, Suresh Selvatamby and Ahmad Jaffri Jamaluddin.
Accompanying them will be coaches Tan Peng Loon and Marzuki Zakaria.
