Sabah entrepreneurs in China to woo investors
KOTA KINABALU: MalaysiaChina Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah Branch committee and members, led by its president Datuk Frankie Liew, embarked on a working visit to China on Friday (May 17) to promote better exchanges and cooperation between Sabah and China.
The nine-day trip includes visits to Shanghai, Eastern Salt Lake City, Hangzhou, Shengzhou and Yiwu where the delegation will have dialogues with their counterparts in China, attend conferences and sightseeing.
Liew said his delegates comprised entrepreneurs from various sectors in Sabah, such as property development, cold storage, agriculture, construction, stationery wholesaler, mining, logistics, news agency, food and beverage, tourism and textile.
“We hope to foster better relationships and cooperation with Chinese entrepreneurs, as well as woo more foreign investors to Sabah to spur the State's economy.”
He said China was a massive market that had emerged as a leading player in many industries.
As such, Liew said Sabahan entrepreneurs must be proactive in learning and seeking a wider market in China.
“Besides attracting more foreign investors to the State, we should promote technological transfer and cooperation.”
The 22-member delegation has visited the Shanghai World Financial Centre (SWFC) in Pudong district, Shanghai that stands at a height of 474 metres above ground on Saturday. Its observatory on the 100th floor offers a spectacular view of Shanghai and the surrounding skyscrapers, including the Shanghai Tower (632 metres) and Oriental Pearl Television Tower (468 metres).
They also visited a shopping area called Shanghai Chenghuangmiao, or Shanghai Old City God Temple and Huangpu River.
Also present were MCCC Sabah branch vice presidents Datuk Soh Poh Soon and Datuk Liew Siew Kian, secretary general Michael Chin Wee Yee, vice secretary general Tan Siew Ling and treasurer Chua Man Kui.
