Elton John unveils new song from biopic ‘Rocketman’
ELTON John has unveil a new song from his biopic, ‘Rocketman’.
Actor Taron Egerton, who plays the singer in the film, appears on the new single.
“(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” was written specifically for “Rocketman” by John’s longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin. That makes it eligible for the Oscar for Best Original Song — a category that the criticallyacclaimed “Bohemian Rhaspsody” wasn’t able to compete in this year.
Playing over the film’s end credits, the duet was co-produced by Greg Kurstin and Giles Martin — who solely produced the rest of the soundtrack.
“(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” highlights the similarity between John and Egerton’s voices.
“Singing, I’m gonna love me again/Check in on my very best friend/ Find the will to fill my cells/ Rise above the broken rails,” sing the pair in the chorus.
Egerton heavily contributed to the soundtrack “Rocketman: Music From the Motion Picture”, out on May 24. He is listed as sole vocalist on several re-imagined versions of John’s hits, such as “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” “Rocketman” and “Your Song.”
“It was so important that the music I composed and recorded had to be sung by Taron. I wanted his interpretation of me, through Bernie’s lyrics (and) my music — not just acting,” said John in a recent statement.
Shown for the first time at the Cannes film festival on May 16, “Rocketman” is set for US release in theatres on May 31. — Relaxnews
