Embracing the digital age in the finance enterprise

SUBANG JAYA: In today’s increasingly competitive world, education is the differentiating factor that can arm the next generation with essential skills for the rest of their life.

The corporate world is changing and according to the World Economic Forum (WEF), 65 per cent of children in primary school today will have jobs that do not yet exist.

Recognising this changing nature, Taylor’s has taken the necessary steps to ensure its students are equipped with the soft skills they need, which are important to have in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR); where human-centred characteristics will become more important than task-based characteristics.

While there are few we can rely on in these uncertain times, one thing remains constant is the steady market demand for accountancy and finance, which remains a popular choice amongst youths.

As the expectations of the profession is increasing, the use of digital technologies, globalisation, and growing regulations and governance mean the world is becoming increasingly complex for the professional accountant.

There is an unwavering need for talent in accounting and finance and with the onset of the 4IR, the global development is only fuelling this need.

In an effort to drive this change, Taylor’s College recently launched the full modules available in the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) programmes.

Taylor’s College, one of Taylor’s Education Group’s signature institutions is regarded as the best pre-university in Malaysia.

Attracting the brightest students in the country, Taylor’s College has a mission to provide a holistic education to the youth of the world through integrated new learning approaches as well as skills-based methodology to develop well-balanced graduates.

Taylor’s College aims to provide a comprehensive education for its students by focusing more on interdisciplinary teaching, research and innovation.

Through its ACCA and CAT programmes, Taylor’s College will provide students with the opportunity to be trained not just by the textbook, but to also equip them with critical thinking skills, which include emotional intelligence and people management to name a few.

At Taylor’s College, ACCA and CAT students are able to obtain a high success rate with industry experts and qualified lecturers, named ‘Star’ lecturers.

They are trained in professional firms or the corporate sector such as banks, Genting Property Management, Great Eastern Life Malaysia, and more.

Taylor’s College lecturers, who are ACCA Approved Learning Providers, focus on exam techniques and practice for ACCA questions, which will offer students real life practical skills.

This valuable experience helps them deliver programmes in a way that reflects their aspirations in grooming future accountancy and business professionals well-suited to the demands of the job market.

The Taylor’s College name holds prestige and is highly respected in the professional and corporate world.

As such, graduates are able to seek high employability within the professional and corporate sectors such as the ‘Big Five’ – Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, KPMG, and Arthur Anderson – and governmentlinked companies.

Taylor’s College’s ACCA and CAT programmes are also in-line with the Malaysian government’s agenda to accelerate the pace of the country’s digital transformation, where the government launched Industry4WRD, a national policy on IR 4.0.

This policy sets out and determines the strategies, policies and action plans to upskill and produce future talent, regulatory framework, and funding incentives.

This is also with aims to achieve the national target of 60,000 accountants by 2020.

Taylor’s has also adopted transformative teaching approach, called REWIND, that allow students to learn through smart devices in a self-directed and personalised manner, anytime anywhere – enabling them to review recorded lectures and access to notes whenever they need them.

Students learn in X-space, technology-rich collaborative classrooms designed to facilitate learning in a highly collaborative and engaging manner.

Taylor’s is celebrating its 50th anniversary in education and continuously strives to provide access to quality education to more and more Malaysian youths in order to provide them the platform to realise their full potential.

Committing to the next 50 years and beyond, Taylor’s aims to break barriers as a Malaysian higher education institution and see the next 50 years of its growth through the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning pedagogy that is relevant to today’s learners to ensure students are able to enjoy the best education experience that is relevant to their needs.

Looking ahead, Taylor’s will continue with its commitment to growing globally by creating a diverse and inclusive community – both through the empowerment of its students with a global mindset as well as its growth agenda in its global footprint.
