JCI Malaysia Golf targets 100 entries

-

Organisers are calling for entries for the JCI Malaysia Senate Golf Tournament and Fund Raising Dinner which is happening here next month.

Organising chairman Daniel Wong said the event, which would be held at Sabah Golf and Country Club on September 16 was aimed at players from within and outside Sabah.

Wong, who is also general legal council for JCI Malaysia Senate, said they were targeting 100 entries, with main focus on local players.

“We are also expecting entries from other Malaysian states but of course mostly from Sabah. At the same time, we have also extended invitations to our JCI counterparts from around the region,” he said at a press conference here, yesterday.

Attractive Hole-in-One prizes will be up for grabs including a 2.2 XL Automatic Transmission Ford Ranger Double Cab sponsored by Ford Sime Darby Auto Connexion and RM1,000 cash as well as other fabulous prizes from local sponsors.

The one-day event is scheduled to start at 7am and organisers have invited Youth and Sports Minister Phoong Jin Zhe to officiate at the event as guest of honour.

“Entry fee for the tournament is RM500 per player, inclusive of one ticket to the fund raising dinner and stand-up comedy show that is happening the same day,” Wong said.

“We invite all golfers to support and join the tournament which is limited to 120 players only. Others who wish to join the fund-raising can attend the dinner where we offer table packages at RM5,000 (platinum), RM3,000 (gold) and RM1,500 (silver) or RM150 for single tickets,” he added.

Wong said they had invited International Trade and Industries Minister Datuk Darell Leiking to attend the dinner.

Meanwhile, president Neelkrish Perumal looked forward to support from local communities to enable JCI Malaysia Senate to conduct another project that aims to help under-privileged children suffering from blindness.

“According to the report from the National Eye Survey published in June last year, Sabah recorded the highest prevalence of moderate to severe blindness.

“The common causes are untreated cataract, retinopathy and glaucoma. Many do not have access to proper treatment due to low awareness, geographical and economic access.

“The impact is greater on schoolchildren where many do not know they have eyesight problems and it interferes with their learning,” Neelkrish said.

“Funds raised from the golf tournament and fund raising dinner will help us implement this JCI Malaysia Reading Glasses Project,” he added.

Toward this end, Neelkrish thanked those who are sponsoring their event. He also hoped that more would come forward to show support.

Also present at the press conference were sponsor representatives Martin Lo from Ford Sime Darby Auto Connexion, Paul Hen from First Vision Optics who is also member of JCI Malaysia Senate, among others.
