Rural Entrepreneurs Carnival involves 350 booths from Sabah
KUALA LUMPUR: The Rural Entrepreneurs Carnival (REC), which will be held at its final location in Putrajaya from October 17 to 21, will see 1,000 exhibition and sales booths.
It will include 750 sales booths featuring rural and social entrepreneurs' products, innovation exhibitions and machine sales booths (55), participating exhibitions and livestock site sales (45) and food trucks (30).
Rural Development Ministry deputy secretarygeneral (Policy) Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan said various activities for entrepreneurs such as business matching between entrepreneurs and wholesalers and prominent supermarkets would also held at the carnival.
“In addition, activities such as colouring contest for children, craft and cooking demonstrations for women, e-sports competitions for youth, cultural performances such as ‘Wayang Kulit', ‘dikir barat' and ‘boria' also await visitors,” he said after appearing on the ‘Bual Bicara' programme on Bernama Radio, yesterday.
He said two million visitors were expected to attend the five-day carnival with sales estimated at RM40 million.
“The REC aims to provide opportunities for rural entrepreneurs to promote their products and to secure new markets,” he said.
He said this year, REC was held at the North Zone level in Penang, the East Zone in Terengganu, Sabah Zone and its highlight in Putrajaya.
Che Murad Sayang said at the zone level, the response was very encouraging with the North Zone recording 218 participating booths with sales of almost RM500,000.
He added the East Zone had 308 participating entries with sales exceeding RM1.6 million, while Sabah had 350 participating booths with a sale of RM3.17 million.
