KLSCCCI promotes MyHero Award at school
KOTA KINABALU: The Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSCCCI) distributed some 250 copies of The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo to SMK Likas students yesterday to promote the generous deeds of MyHero Award 3.0 recipients through their inspirational stories in the newspapers.
Organized by the KLSCCCI, the third MyHero Award sought to honour the unsung heroes for their courageous act and contribution to society.
Five recipients were honoured this year, namely Jameyah Sheriff, Richard Wong Yew King, Md Herman bin Saidin, Cheah Kim Hock and Rajendran A/L Velu, as well as Dr Norzah Abd Ghani.
MyHero Award 3.0 organizing chairman Datuk Wira Richard Lau Chi Chiang said the award was held based on one of the 10 objectives of the chamber’s president, Datuk Ter Leong Yap, that was to promote national unity and racial harmony.
“The award aims to recognize individuals who have contributed or rendered their assistance irrespective of race or background, and by doing so, instilled national unity and racial harmony.”
Through the award, KLSCCCI hopes to spread the important message of ‘Unity - Key to Prosperity’, whereby national unity and racial harmony are the keys to our country’s prosperity.
“Our chamber hopes that by recognizing and highlighting the contribution of the heroes and heroines through newspapers of different languages, the community will see them as heroes in society,” he said at a ceremony to distribute the newspapers at SMK Likas here yesterday.
Lau, who is also the chairman of National Unity Committee of KLSCCCI, said the MyHero Award 3.0 was supported by various media, including See Hua Daily News, The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo.
Meanwhile, he said 13 individuals out of 59 nominees have been shortlisted for the online voting for the Most Popular Online MyHero. The public are encouraged to vote for the hero or heroine of their choice from now till October 31.
KLSCCCI has also organized an essay competition for primary school pupils.
“We encourage students to show their creativity in interpreting the MyHero stories from different perspectives.”
The essay competition is open to pupils aged 10 to 12 years old.

The event yesterday also saw Herman, who is hearing impaired, sharing his inspiring story as the first and only sign language tutor in Labuan to assist in the communication of many people with the same challenges. At present, Herman is actively involved in the establishment of a training and education centre for individuals with hearing impairment.
Also present were KLSCCCI Public Relations and Tourism Industry Committee deputy chairman Wilfred Wong and SMK Likas principal Roslan bin Md Idris.
