Unimas to adopt 2U2I programme in 2020

-

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will implement the 2U2I (two years university + two years industry) programme next year, in a move to increase the work capabilities of its graduates, thus increasing their job opportunities.

Its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi told Bernama that the programme will expose students to real job experiences and learn from tipoffs from the industry players themselves.

“This exposure will inspire ideas in the students and teach them the importance of collaborations and networking with the industry so that they acquire relevant skills and are able to break into the job market which is increasingly competitive, after they complete their studies,” he said.

2U2I was introduced by the Education Ministry as part of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education), aimed at creating a ‘win-win' situation for both educational institutions and industry players.

With the programme, undergraduates will be able to gain greater exposure to the real working environment, while industry players can ensure the courses, delivery and learning methods offered by the universities are relevant and meet industry needs.

To date, 10 universities have offered the programme, including University Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Universiti Islam Sultan Zainal Abidin, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu.
