TUARAN: The Sabah Government will continue to render assistance to people who are impacted during the duration of the Movement Control Order (MCO) due to Covid-19.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau said the distribution of the food supply assistance will be carried out by the Village Community Administration Council (MPKK) at respective districts.

“In Tuaran, for a start I have asked the MPKK to identify the affected folks such as those living in hardcore poverty, senior citizens, single mothers and people with disability who will be given priority,” he said.

He also said that due to the limited resource presently, a total of 3,000 food baskets will be distributed at three constituencies namely Sulaman, Tamparuli and Kiulu. Each will receive 1,000 food baskets.

He said this when distributing the assistance to the Kiulu MPKK.

According to him, the State Government is aware of the stress faced by the people presently.

Madius, who is also Tuaran member of parliament, said the government will find a solution that would benefit the people.

“We are aware of the situation facing the people. We are aware that many fishermen, business owners and hawkers cannot carry out their operation.

“In Tuaran, we have an action room that is constantly monitored by the Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) of Sulaman, Tamparuli and Kiulu to receive any information and to ensure no one is left out,” he said.

At the same time, the MPKK machinery will also identify the folks under their respective constituency because the government does not want the people to have kitchens that are emitting smoke, he added.

Madius also assured that there is enough food supply at the market presently.

“This is because food producers are allowed to continue operation,” he said, adding that distribution of food and vegetables between districts is also allowed.
