The Sabah Masters Open Athletics Championship (Samoc) 2020 is the latest sport event to be postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Masters Open Athletics Championship (Samoc) 2020 is the latest sport event to be postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The championship initially scheduled from July 4-5 at the Likas Stadium would be rescheduled to a later date, said Sabah Masters Athletics Association (Samas) David William yesterday.
“With deep regret we want to announce that with the current Covid-19 pandemic, we have no choice but to postpone the championship.
“We have not decided on the date yet but hopefully in October depending on the situation.
“I urge the athletes to stay fit
and be ready all the time,” he said, adding that international major sport event including Olympics too have been postponed.
David said that they expected a record entry for Samoc where the championship this year has received positive response.
Around 700 athletes were received last year, including international teams.
Meanwhile, David said Samas with around 30 athletes were forced to skip the 25th Thailand Masters Athletics Championship in early March after the organiser banned foreign athletes to take part due to Covid-19.
And with the cancellation of the Malacca Masters in April, Samas athletes will only have the rescheduled Samoc and Malaysian Masters to look forward to, he added in a statement yesterday.
