LABUAN: The Federal Territories Ministry through Labuan Corporation (LC) has decided to provide initiatives aimed at lessening the financial burden of the Labuan folks and the business community in the dutyfree-island here in light of the Covid-19 crisis.

However, some adjustments were made that will see additional benefits to the new initiatives for the third cluster of Wilayah Cakna specifically for the Labuan folks.

Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the initiatives were in line with the recent announcement of the Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package (Prihatin) by the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said among the initiatives were the exemption of rental payment for LC-owned public housing for six months from March to August this year.

“The rental rate for this exempted home starts from RM150 to RM650 per month by category involving 546 families and total cost of RM933,210,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Another initiative is for the hawker and small-time business owners, of which 774 hawkers and small-time traders at all LCowned premises at Pasar Sentral UTC Building, night market, farmer’s market, Labuan Food Court and Labuan International Sea Sport Complex would enjoy a six-month free rental beginning March.

“The total cost of rental for the six-month period is RM1,036,110,” he said. Annuar also announced that 1,300 hawkers and small-time traders would receive one-off cash aid of RM500 and that the LC has set aside an allocation of RM650,000 for the purpose.

The asnaf (tithe recipients) and low-income earners (fishermen, farmers, anchovy and fish trap operators) would also receive food assistance, welfare and health kit involving an allocation of RM50,000.

Other initiatives are the purchase of ventilators for the Labuan Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) by Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) and an additional quarantine preparation centre at the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) building for patients under investigation (PUI).
