Kiulu leader gives food aid to villagers
KOTA KINABALU: The Movement Control Order (MCO) brought forth by the coronavirus (Covid-19) has inspired a young leader to extend a helping hand to the needy in Kiulu.
“I know some families are really facing shortages. With contrition and humility, I took a moment yesterday to not only present what was within my capabilities, but also to find out their recent situation,” said Jainysius Sipan, the Kampung Bambangan Lama Ulu Community Management Council (MPKK) chairman, in a statement yesterday.
The Kampung Bambangan Ulu consists of Kampung Bambangan Lama and Kampung Baraba in Kiulu.
“Yes, I bought the goods myself using my allowance as MPKK chairman.
The packages that I have given to 21 families was not that much, but hopefully it will be a symbolic gesture of concern of the village leadership towards others,” Jainysius told the media through WhatsApp when asked to comment on a viral social media video of him making the kind gestures.
The 25-year-old, the youngest 2019 appointed MPKK chairman in Kiulu, added the donation was also made in honour of the season of Lent, which will end on April 10 for Catholics around the globe.
When asked about the special assistance announced by the Chief Minister recently, Jainysius said he had sent a list of eligible family heads to the Kiulu Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM).
“I have been made to undertand the list will be detailed and the assistance will be sent to the recipients as soon as possible. Yesterday, the average head of family I met knew that such assistance from the government was very limited.
“The grassroots like us are also aware, there are families that are in much dire need compared to us,” he said.
“Yesterday’s donation packages, amongst others, are in the form of canned food, coffee, sugar, flour, biscuits and instant food,” he added.
Jainysius was accompanied by Alvetus Sipan, Jiterneson Sudin and Rexwelly Sudin to send the packages in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
