MBKS-Bomba joint disinfection programme kicks off at Stutong Community Market
KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) jointly kicked off the disinfection and sanitation works on the Stutong Community Market yesterday, as one of many measures undertaken to curb the spread of Covid-19 here.
According to Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, the operation involved 10 MBKS officers and 23 firefighters.
“What we are doing today is to keep the place clean; keeping it free from germs.
“This disinfection programme will be run at all the markets and also the public places where there are many people gathering at one time,” he said.
In this regard, he called upon the public to not panic in seeing the disinfection works.
“Do not panic – it is a practice to ensure that public places like this community market are safe for you to visit.
“In fact, this (programme) aims to increase the confidence of the people in coming here to get what they need.”
Wee also stressed that the disinfection and spraying works, under the present MBKS administration, would be run from time to time.
“We start with Stutong Market today. This activity is an ongoing effort; it will be run at other markets and other public places under the jurisdiction of MBKS,” said the mayor.
Meanwhile, Bomba Sarawak deputy director Jainal @ Zainal Madasin assured all that regarding the logistics involved in carrying out the disinfection and spraying works, the department had no constraints or problems.
“We are cooperating with the local authority to carry out the works, which cover not just markets but also other public areas.
“We have sufficient equipment and logistics,” he said.
