RM250,000 stolen from my home not Bersatu’s money – Syed Saddiq
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman lost RM250,000 after the cash was believed to have been stolen from his house in Petaling Jaya on Saturday.
In the 7 pm incident, the money, which the Muar MP said was last seen on March 13 or 14, was kept in a steel safe box.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal confirmed that police had received a report over the theft.
“A domestic helper is under custody to facilitate investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft,” he said.
Syed Saddiq has denied that the missing RM250,000 belonged to Parti Pribumi
Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
In a statement, Syed Saddiq said he acknowledged that RM250,000 was missing from his home, but he has never stated that the money was owned by Bersatu.
“I want to stress that I was quoted correctly (by a news report over the missing money), but I never stated that the investigation was concerning funds owned by Bersatu.
“In fact, in the police report lodged on March 29, I never stated that the money was owned by Bersatu.
Therefore, the title of the report is not true at all,” he said, referring to a news report on a TV station.
Syed Saddiq is demanding that the TV station publicly apologise immediately for claiming that the money was owned by Bersatu, saying that the news report had brought about serious implications to his image and credibility as a Bersatu leader.
“I’m asking for the TV station to cooperate, and I’m hoping that this matter won’t proceed to legal means to preserve my credibility as an Armada and Bersatu leader,” he said.
