-

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 1,300 hawkers and small traders under the Labuan Corporation (LC) will receive a one-off RM500 assistance each following the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the assistance involved a total allocation of RM650,000.

“Besides that, 774 licensed hawkers operating at the Labuan Central Market (UTC), night markets, farmers’ markets, food courts and shoplots owned by LC have been exempted from paying rent for six months beginning March 2020.

“Residents living in LC public housing will also be exempted from paying rent for six months. This will benefit 546 families with LC Labuan Corporation to bear an estimated cost of RM1 million,” he said through a Facebook livestream here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Annuar who is also Federal Territories Security Working Committee chairman said the Kepong parliamentary constituency has been classified as a Covid-19 red zone area after recording 75 cases as of yesterday.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 red zone areas in Kuala Lumpur to three.

Lembah Pantai recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases at 226, while Titiwangsa reported 64 cases.

“Throughout the MCO period, we are also working with agencies such as Alam Flora and the Fire and Rescue Department to carry out disinfection exercise around the capital, especially in areas involving high rise buildings,” he said.

Annuar also said that any nongovernmental organisations that wish to give contributions to the poor and homeless people should consult the Crisis Management Centre at the City Hall Enforcement Department, Jalan Tun Razak here. –
