Three arrested over fatal attack on estate worker

BELURAN: A local palm oil estate worker died after he was allegedly attacked by three other local men in a shared accommodat­ion in Muncil Maju Estate, Sugut here, Saturday night.

Beluran District Police Chief, Superinten­dent Kasim Muda said that the victim was identified as Mohd Fazle Mide, 25, from Tawau.

Kasim said, according to a witness, at about 10pm on March 28, the three suspects went to the victim’s hostel.

“The victim was sleeping in a space at the back of the house when the suspects came in and kicked the victim numerous times until he was unable to move.

“The witness who was at the scene pleaded for the suspects to stop, then the suspects fled the scene, leaving the victim on the floor.

“The witness then tried to calm the victim who was weak,” Kasim said.

He said that the three suspects, aged 17 to 50, were believed drunk and had also brought a homemade rifle (bakakuk) but was not used during the incident.

The police managed to arrest the three suspects the next day and seized the bakakuk in Kampung Timbulus Sugut, here.

All the suspects are local residents and were detained under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

On another developmen­t, Kasim said that the police had initiated investigat­ions into three cases on March 29 on Movement Ccontrol Order violation that involved 10 suspects aged 14 to 56.

Eight of the suspects, aged 14 to 33, were caught playing sepak takraw in Kampung Melapi Telupid, while the other two suspects were caught at a public area without valid reason in Kampung Ulu Sapi Beluran and Mile 4 Telupid, respective­ly.

He said all three cases were investigat­ed under Section 186 and Section 269 of the Penal Code, and Section 22 (b) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) and Section 3 (1) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulation­s 2020.

“All the ten suspects were nabbed during the MCO when Beluran Royal Malaysian Police put up roadblocks, patrols and inspection within Beluran district,” Kasim said.
