FCAS donates gloves, head covers, blood pressure monitors
KOTA KINABALU: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) has handed over 2,000 pairs of gloves, 1,700 pieces of head covers and 10 blood pressure monitors to Lahad Datu Hospital.
The contributions were in line with the fundraising organized by FCAS, which was initiated by The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) in aid of those who are currently fighting Covid-19 in the frontlines throughout the country.
Upon request and assistance of FCAS committee member Tan Cheng Teng, FCAS has handed over the gloves and head covers donated by the public, as well as purchased additional blood pressure monitors to the Lahad Datu Hospital.
The hospital is also in need of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including protective garments, temperature screening devices and ventilators.
FCAS urged interested donors or any businesses with available stock of the items to contact Tan at 019-8535390 or FCAS Secretariat at 0168062177.
FCAS president Tan Sri Dr TC Goh said the fundraising effort to purchase more protective equipment was still ongoing.
He said the fundraising campaign has received overwhelming support from business leaders, including those from Peninsular Malaysia.
He added that wearing face mask was imperative as a preventive measure against Covid-19.
“Everyone should be wearing face mask when venturing out from our homes during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period and even after the order is lifted, or else all the effort put into staying at home would have gone to waste.”
He said the public should also dispose of used face masks, and refrain from reusing the masks.
On another note, Goh said face masks were in severe shortage since the government has revised its ceiling price to RM 1.50 per piece.
“According to businesses, the cost of face masks from China suppliers has surged due to global demand, raw materials and logistics.”
Hence, he said the government should review the ceiling price of face masks and even consider subsidizing imported face masks or else the public would not be able to get hold of masks in the market.
