Assistant minister lodges police report against accuser
SANDAKAN: Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing cum Karamunting Assemblyman, George Hiew Vun Zin yesterday lodged a police report against social media Facebook user who accused him of taking allocation for food assistance for his own use.
Hiew said the irresponsible individual had been disseminating false and defamatory information.
Hde hoped that the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission would investigate the matter so that justice would be served.
He said that many recipients of the food essential assistance here had pointed out that the assistance they received would not add up to RM100 worth of goods that they were entitled to, and they were sharing this on social media platform, Facebook.
To this, Hiew said that RM100,000 allocation from the State Government to distribute the assistance could only cater for 1,000 families, if the assistance given was worth RM100 per pack.
He said in order to reach out to more families, the value of each essential goods bag had to be reduced.
“Karamunting Community
Development Leader Unit has given out essential food aid to 3,500 families so far.
These assistance include rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar, biscuits, water and more.
“In order for the assistance to reach more families, we have also added our own additional funding. However, irresponsible people have been spreading misleading information about us, which is very disappointing,” he said.
Hiew said he welcomed those who have inquiries about the distribution of food essential aid to contact the Karamunting office, so that people would stop spreading false news that would damage the reputation of the people’s representatives who are working tirelessly behind the scene here.
