TAWAU: Tawau Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Tawau Agriculture Club managed to collect public donations that exceeded its initial target in a very short time in response to a request for a respirator or ventilator for Tawau General Hospital.

Earlier, Tawau General Hospital deputy director, Dr Azman Ibrahim sought the assistance of the Tawau Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Tawau Agricultural Club to help obtain at least 10 ventilators to meet the growing needs for the equipment for Covid-19 patients in Tawau as the district had been declared as the Covid-19 red zone.

Ventilators are essential for severe Covid-19 patients due to difficulty in breathing. This ventilator will help the patients breathe normally.

The price per unit of ventilator is RM50,000 or RM500,000 for 10 units. The target of this donation is RM500,000.

The hard work of the Tawau Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Tawau Agricultural Club, along with the overwhelming response from the public, the target had been achieved within a short time and even beyond the target.

President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Tawau, Chia Seong Fatt is deeply touched and thankful for the contributions from the public.

“This shows that people are very concerned and are willing to help in whatever way they can to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chia also hoped that the public would always adhere to the Movement Control Order (MCO) and obtain official news and advice from the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
