4,000kg of greens for 2,500 households in Inanam

KOTA KINABALU: The office of Inanam assemblyman Kenny Chua did an amazing feat by delivering 4,000 kilogrammes of fresh vegetables to 50 villages yesterday, which benefitted 2,500 households.

The vegetables were sponsored by Simon Leong, the president of the Sabah Kundasang Agriculture Operators Association, or Persatuan Pengusaha Pertanian Kundasang Sabah.

Inanam Kapitan Lee Thien Fook, who coordinated the delivery of the free vegetables yesterday, said the Inanam assemblyman office had previously distributed 500kg of fish and cuttlefish to villagers in the constituency.

He said the office had arranged for a four-tonne lorry and a Toyota 4WD to carry the vegetables from Kundasang back to Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday.

The fresh produce includes 12 types of vegetables such as cabbage, celery, chilies and cucumber.

The next morning, the Inanam assemblyman office staff divided the vegetables and assigned 10 teams to distribute the produce to 50 villages in Telipok, Manggatal and Inanam.

The vegetables were handed over to the leaders of the Village Community Management Council (MPKK), who later distributed the fresh produce to the villagers.

Lee said it took the teams around five hours to complete the deliveries.

He said Chua had arranged for the delivery of the vegetables as part of the welfare programme as the people, especially the villagers, were affected by Covid-19.

He added that the Inanam assemblyman office had received sponsorship from fishing boat owners and managed to distribute 500kg of basung fish and cuttlefish to 50 households in seven villages in the constituency last Friday and this Monday.

Lee said the office would deliver eggs to the villagers today (April 2).
