DAP calls on state govt to allocate special funding for opposition state seats
SIBU: DAP Sarawak calls on the Chief Minister to emulate the federal government in giving special funding of RM100,000 to all the state Legislative Assembly members to assist the people in their respective constituencies.
He said this is the time to unite Sarawakians and treat all as one and one for all.
“Our chief minister must show his compassion and magnanimity by allocating the special Covid-19 funds to all state assemblymen irrespective of their political affiliation. There is no better time for him to unite all Sarawakians and no better time to use the government resources for the benefit of all,’ David Wong the DAP deputy chairman said in a press statement, yesterday.
He said many Sarawakians are crying out for help and it is the duty of our state government to respond to their plight.
“Many hawkers and traders, small businesses, self-employed, sick and disabled, single parent and the unemployed just do not have enough saving to last another 14 days, not to mention the possibility of further extension of Movement Control Order (MCO),” he said.
According to a survey done by Bank Nagara Malaysia in 2017, he said nearly 73% of Malaysian don’t have a saving of RM1000 and as high as 32% of the people will run out of saving within seven days of losing their incomes.
“We have a state reserve of RM30 billion and the reserve is meant for rainy days and we have a storm now and the state government must show the people that they care.”
He said any extension of the MCO by another 14 days will definitely affect half of the population and many of them would be in dire needs for food and essential items such as baby milk, cooking gas and medicines.
He said the elected representatives must be given funding so that they can take care of the people in their constituencies as the government machinery is not sufficient to address the needs of the people.
