SEPANG: Malaysian Moto3 rider Khairul Idham Pawi, who rides with the Petronas Sprinta Racing team, failed to leave for Spain on Friday morning to participate in the upcoming MotoGP World Championship due to a European Union (EU)imposed travel ban.
Petronas Yamaha SRT team principal Datuk Razlan Razali said the rider known as ‘Super KIP' could not depart for the championship which is set to resume on the Jerez Circuit on July 19 as the EU only allowed travellers from 15 countries to enter Europe.
“Unfortunately, Malaysia is not listed,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Razlan said the team was currently seeking help from MotoGP promoter Dorna Sports to work with the Spanish government on granting exemptions and authorisations for all Malaysian riders to participate in the MotoGP.
“We are working with Dorna Sports and God willing, within the next two days we may be able to obtain the letter of approval,” he said.
