Fetus in sewer shocks workers

- By Elton Gomes

KOTA KINABALU: Sewer maintenance workers got the shocked of their lives when they found a fetus near the Wisma Customs Headquarters yesterday.

Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the fetus was found stuck in one of the waste traps around 12.30 pm.

“The workers immediately reported the findings to their supervisor who then contacted the police.

“Police investigation revealed the sewage system flows from a nearby shopping complex and the last time the maintenance work was carried out at the sewer was on June 24,” he said yesterday.

Habibi said the fetus was around 20 centimeters and fully developed while police also believed the incident happened recently based on the colour of the skin.

Police are still investigating the case and urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body.

Those found guilty under the offence can face a jail term of up to two years or fine or both upon conviction.
