Council urged to cut overgrown grass near playground

-

TAWAU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Tawau Complaints Bureau has urged the municipal council to take action on the overgrown grass on the vacant land next to a playground between Jalan Damai and Jalan Durian on Jalan Kuhara.

Its chief Sarah Chang said the weeds were taller than an adult and completely obscured the playground.

“We, as adults are afraid to navigate our way into the unkempt area, much less children.”

She hoped that the Tawau Municipal Council would clear the weeds immediately to stop the grass from growing any taller due to the incessant rain recently, as well as to prevent dengue fever in the area.

On the other hand, Chang and her team member, Chau Xing Hong, have also received complaints about the dirtiness and foul smell emitting from the rubbish chute at the shoplot at Lorong Abaca 2 next to Marco Polo Hotel.

She said the bureau had received a similar complaint in January about the slippery ground near the garbage chute that was believed to be caused by a leaking sewer pipe.

She said the shortcut was regularly used by motorists daily and the condition was extremely unhygienic to the coffee shops nearby.

Chang hoped that the municipal council would act on the problem as soon as possible, particularly when Sabah has reported cholera cases.

She also called on the public to contact the LDP Tawau Public Complaints Bureau at 014-399 1900 for any complaints.
