Seven PKR branches want Anwar as next PM
MIRI: Seven Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) branches in northern Sarawak have stated their support for party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be the next Prime Minister should Pakatan Harapan (PH) return to power.
In a joint statement yesterday, the Miri, Baram, Lawas, Sibuti, Hulu Rajang, Bintulu, Limbang, and Lawas PKR branches said they unanimously agreed that Anwar is the right candidate to bring about political stability and economic reforms.
The branches led by PKR vicepresident and Miri member of parliament Dr Michael Teo said Anwar would craft a national vision as the leader of Malaysia’s first multiracial party in power.
“We strongly believe that he is most capable and competent, more so today to navigate the economy according to PH’s reform agenda if he is made Prime Minister,” said Dr Teo.
According to the seven branches, Malaysia is currently facing economic turbulence due to the Covid-19 pandemic and political instability at the top echelons of government, which has affected investor confidence and is holding the country back from progressing.
The branches said Anwar’s experience in dealing with the Asean financial crisis while he was Minister of Finance in 1997 would enable him to lead the country.
The group of nearly 40 members, including PKR Sarawak publicity chief Abun Sui Anyit – who is PKR Hulu Rajang chairman, pledged their support to Anwar in front of Dr Teoh’s service centre.
