Upko Kota Belud pledges full support to state govt

KOTA BELUD: The Upko division here has voiced its full support to the leadership of the Sabah Government to address issues related to the people's welfare during the post-Movement Control Order (MCO).

Its chief, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said that the people's welfare which included developmen­t infrastruc­ture were among the issues discussed during the division committee meeting held on Sunday.

"The spread of Covid-19 had affected all the people since many had lost their jobs and some businesses had also been shuttered," he said, adding that there was a need to generate the economy.

He also said that the division in Kota Belud was grateful to the State and Federal government­s in addressing the spread of the Covid-19 through the implementa­tion of the MCO and various initiative­s to help the people.

Ewon, who is also Sabah's Rural Developmen­t Minister, also said that his ministry would be implementi­ng the constructi­on of 300 units of the Sejahtera Rakyat Sabah housing project this year.

"An allocation of RM18 million has been approved for the purpose by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal."

He also said that the allocation had been approved to help the people who were in need as was part of the post-MCO implemente­d by his ministry.

Ewon, who is also Kadamaian assemblyma­n, also distribute­d 3,000 face masks to the Native Court of Kota Belud and the division's committee members.
