Huazong: Respect the King’s emergency proclamation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) has urged all quarters to respect Yang diPertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s proclamation of emergency to bring the Covid-19 situation in the country under control.

Goh urged politicians from both sides of the divide not to cast doubt on His Majesty’s wisdom in making the proclamation, and not to politicize it.

He said it was rather clear that the sole purpose of the emergency is to bring the Covid-19 situation in the country under control. Hence, it should be fully supported by all Malaysians by giving their full cooperation to the government and the relevant authorities.

Goh said Huazong also welcomed and supported the King’s consent to the suggestion by the government for the formation of an independent committee that will comprise Members of Parliament (MPs) from the government and opposition as well as relevant health experts, to closely monitor the situation and to recommend to the King if the emergency can be ended earlier. He further noted that, various public-opinion polls indicated that a vast majority of the people were supportive of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to contain the spread of Covid-19; likewise, they also considered the emergency as a viable measure in fighting and containing the pandemic.

However, he hoped the government could ensure that the emergency will be properly and justly implemented, so as to prevent it from being abused by any quarters. – Bernama
