Government officials are urged to lead by example and follow standard operating procedures, including social distancing, during the movement control order period so that they can regain the trust of the people.

LABUAN: Government officials are urged to lead by example and follow standard operating procedures during the movement control order period so that they can regain the trust of the people.

President of the Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce Datuk Wong Kii Yii said Labuan is also within the scope of the Movement Control Order 2.0, and people must be kept at a distance during operations.

Wong said that when government officials were working in groups and neglecting social distancing, how could the people be convinced?

He said the government insisted that the people follow the standard operating procedures, and that they would be punished severely if they didn’t.

“The public is only allowed to eat in accordance to the size of the table, and it is more compliant with the standard than the official working in groups and the distance between people. If the official did not follow the standard operating procedures, wouldn’t it be a conversation?”

Wong also said that while everyone is working hard to fight the virus, officials have neglected to abide by the SOP.

“Isn’t it a waste of all previous efforts and a dire prospect?” he said.

He called on the people of Labuan to unite and stop the chain of Covid-19 infection.
