Pitas flood victims receive food baskets

-

KOTA KINABALU: Flood victims in Pitas continue to receive food aid initiated by assemblyman Datuk Ruddy Awah.

Almost everyday since the district was hit by flood last week, food baskets have been handed over to villagers affected.

“I personally handed over the food baskets to the villagers. I know it was not much, but at least I can see how badly their village has been affected after presenting the food.

“Some bridges were badly damaged and roads are in need of repairing works. I will bring all the matters to the relevant bodies and agencies for further actions,” he said.

Pitas is one of the most affected districts in the state after flood hit the northern part of Sabah last week.

Almost all villages in Pitas were hit by the flood, and some 4,000 people were cut off after a bridge collapsed last Monday.

Food relief has been airlifted to the affected areas.

However, as of yesterday many villagers in the Bengkoka constituencies are still crying for help hoping their collapsed and badly damaged roads can be repaired as soon as possible.

Many SESB electricity poles are still down, causing some villages to be without electricity for almost two weeks.

The badly damaged roads in Bengkoka constituency has also resulted in the villagers being unable to send their crops out, making it difficult for them to make money during the movement control order (MCO), where their incomes are already badly affected.
