Sabah needs bigger share of vaccine supply – MP

KOTA KINABALU: Former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew has reiterated her call to the Federal Government to ensure that Sabah gets a bigger share of the supply of Covid-19 vaccine.

She said this is in view of the current situation facing the state which has yet to see an abatement of the prolonged pandemic.

“The responsibility rests with the State Government to push for a bigger proportion of the vaccine supply as befits our prevailing phenomenon in terms of the surge in Covid-19 cases. We must push harder for Sabah’s request to be met for the safety and well-being of the general population.

“For some time initially, Sabah was the highest in the country in terms of total cumulative cases. Currently, it is the second highest, going by statistics. As of January 24, 2021, Sabah had a tally of 46,791 cases a er Selangor which hit the 54,334 mark.

“And if we look at the daily record chart, Sabah has persisted in registering a three-digit increase in respect of new Covid-19 cases since September 2020. Since December 2020 until this month, its daily census has fluctuated between second to fourth spot, rotating among Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor,” Liew, who is also Member of Parliament for Tawau, said in a statement here yesterday.

During her debate speech in the State Legislative Assembly si ing on December 21, 2020, the Api Api assemblywoman called on the Federal Government to consign sufficient stocks of the vaccines to meet Sabah’s growing demand.
