TAWAU: SJK(C) Sin Hwa has won the honour of being second runner-up of best library in the national level competition for the primary schools category in 2020.

Headmistress Chu Voon Fui said the school was recommended by the State Education Department to participate in the competition.

Fourteen primary schools across the country participated in the competition and it was gratifying to see the school stand out. The school received the award which was largely owing to the school classrooms equipped with smart digital board.

Starting from Grade 1 to Grade 6, a total of 36 classrooms in the school has advanced electronic digital board equipment for teachers to deliver lessons. In addition, the school has also actively created a scholarly environment to promote the reading rate among students which the library plays a very important role in that, she said.

SJK(C) Sin Hwa is also the only school that has set up a broadcasting team for students to experience being a reporter to interview, photograph, do editing and reporting.

The broadcasting team has created opportunities for the students to learn to report on school activities and extracurricular activities, and then upload the news and videos to the YouTube platform in order to share school information with the public. Due to these advantages, the school stands out among other schools to win this award.

Chu also said that the competition was not only to evaluate the special features of the school’s library, but also to assess the provided software and hardware of the facilities of the school, the overall school environment, and the innovative activities that have been held in the school.

She also expressed that to attract students to read in the library, other than to have a rich collection of books, the library should have distinguishing features to make the students visit the library as a daily routine and by this way only the reading atmosphere can be motivated and cultivated among the students.

She also indicated that the school library was able to win a second runner-up award at the national level mostly on account of the strong support from the Board of Directors of the school. Moreover, the Teachers and Parents Association and Alumni Association of SJK(C) Sin Hwa also served as a strong backup forces for the school that enabled the school to have Smart e-classrooms, electronic equipment and perfect teaching facilities.

On top of that, she is thankful and truly grateful to the teachers’ dedication and contribution in working together to beautify the school environment. Through their wholehearted hard work, the school has won the honour which made the school’s Board of Directors, headmistress, teachers and students extremely proud.
