KOTA KINABALU: The public are again reminded to, at all times, comply fully with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) implemented by the Health Ministry and relevant authorities to stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

“At all times, SOP compliance must be observed, don’t be complacent and don’t take things for granted. I am making this appeal to the public because the Covid-19 pandemic starts and ends with us,” said Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim.

“Even though the situation in our kampung may be calm but the virus can affect anyone of us at anytime. To this end, I also advise the public to observe the No Gathering SOP and to always practice social distancing,” he said.

The Tamparuli assemblyman pointed out that the government wants to get the situation under control as soon as possible so that the state’s economy can be revived for the sake of the people.

On the issue of weddings and funerals in villages, Jahid stressed that the gatherings should be kept to the minimum attendance and that it must be done with full compliance of the SOPs.

“We must tell ourselves to do our best, it only takes one person who is careless to cause other people to get infected,” he stressed.

Jahid who was met after witnessing the handing over of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad’s contribution to frontliners in Penampang on Tuesday, said this when asked for his advice to the rakyat in Sabah as the number of Covid-19 cases is still high.

Also present were Sylvia Pius Laban and Sifera Kodoh from Better Bets Project which is collaborating with Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad on the food contribution to frontliners.

Commenting on the contribution, Jahid said that it was to show the frontliners the rakyat’s appreciation and gratitude to them for what they are doing everyday.

“We cannot put a price on the risks the frontliners face everyday in our battle against the Covid-19 pandemic,” he stressed.

Meanwhile Dexter said that the company had distributed about RM500,000 worth of buns to frontliners in Sabah.

“We started the project in Penampang and we are working with the Rural Development Ministry to distribute the buns to flood victims in the rural areas,” he said.

District Officer Henry said the buns will be distributed to health personnel, Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), RELA, APM, and the Fire and Rescue Services Department in Penampang.
