26 families in Sepanggar receive donations from shopping mall
KOTA KINABALU: Twenty-six families in Sepanggar finally breathed a sigh of relief after receiving food donations through the CPCares: We Care Food Bank Program.
Last week (Jan 11), the management of Centre Point Sabah distributed 150 kg of donated items to the families.
Among those families were senior citizens, single mothers, families whose heads of household have suffered pay cuts, loss of job, and other implications due to the pandemic.
Sairin bin Idin, 46, who worked as a tourist guide before losing his job since the first movement control order (MCO) implemented in March 2020, was very grateful to the donors for the items.
“Thank you for the donation. Finally, I would not be worried about putting food on the table for my family today,” he said.
Since the pandemic, his family has been struggling to make ends meet.
He is depending solely on cutting down unnecessary expenses and getting help from family and friends.
Sairin’s family, along with 25 other families received essential groceries such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, flour, dry noodles, and other essentials from the donations collected through the food bank campaign.
The CPCares: We Care Food Bank Campaign is still ongoing despite the MCO implementation.
The public is encouraged to send the donation items to its donation hub which has been relocated to the ground floor near information counter.
The donation hub counter is open daily from 12 pm until 5 pm.
The management team will make sure to comply with SOP guidelines during the collection and distribution of the donation items.

Besides that, the free face mask giveaway to the public is still ongoing at the mall.
This initiative is to keep the communities safe while shopping inside the mall for their essential needs.
Each shopper can take one free face mask without any minimum spending limit at the information counter on the ground floor.
