MNCF nominate Amarjit for ACC top post

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) have unanimously agreed to nominate vice-president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill as their candidate for the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) president’s post for the 2021-2025 term.

MNCF president Datuk Abu Samah Abd Wabah said the decision was made at the executive council meeting that he chaired via online yesterday.

He said Amarjit was nominated based on the fact that his father, Tan Sri Darshan Singh Gill, had headed the ACC from 2001 to 2010 as well as Amarjit’s own extensive administrative experience in the sport of cycling at national and Asian levels.

“Indeed, this is a historical moment that is unique for Malaysia. I really hope Amarjit will win the ACC presidential election for the 20212025 term (to be held in Dubai on March 22),” he said in a statement issued by the MNCF yesterday.

Abu Samah, who is also the ASEAN Cycling Association (ACA) president, added that Amarjit’s nomination had won the support of many ASEAN countries, including that of Thai Cycling Association (TCA) president General Decha Hemkasri.

Meanwhile, Amarjit, who thanked the MNCF for nominating him, said he was the first person to submit the nomination form.

“This is proof of my high commitment. I am also happy because the MNCF have confirmed my nomination. This is very important because it is also proof that I have been fully accepted at the national level,” he said.
