Action taken against 34 businesses for misconduct, price manipulati­on

KOTA KINABALU: Action has been taken against 34 business premises with a seizure value of RM32,015 through the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Ops Catut 8.0, said KPDNHEP Sabah director Georgie Abas.

"Ops Catut 8.0, which commenced on January 25 until February 8, is aimed at curbing misconduct or price manipulati­on by traders following the online learning for students during the school session that began on January 20," he said here yesterday.

"Since the MCO (Movement Control Order) enforcemen­t on January 13, KPDNHEP Sabah has conducted a total of 5,054 inspection­s on business premises.

"Case action under various acts enforced has been taken on 34 business premises with a seizure value of RM32,015," he said.

Georgie said 17 cases, including failure of placing price tags, were found under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteeri­ng Act 2011 while five cases were found under the Supply Control Act 1961 for failure to provide license or permits to sell or store scheduled control items such as cooking oil, sugar, flour, liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), petrol and diesel without the permission of the supply controller.

He said another two cases, including placing misleading prices on goods, were found under the Consumer Protection Act 1999, and 10 cases, including using unverified weighing and measuring devices for trading purposes, were found under the Weights and Measures Act 1972.
