KOTA BELUD: A school clerk braved pouring rain and knee-deep floodwaters to deliver the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) material to students in Kampung Pituru here.

Shafiq Shazwan Juhen, 23, a clerk at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pekan II Kota Belud said the learning material had to be delivered to more than 20 students because of poor Internet connection at their homes.

"The village has slow Internet connection, especially when it's raining, so it is difficult to participate in the PdPR session via online. Some students will sit for SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia), so I do not want them to be left out," the native of Kampung Pituru told Bernama.

He said floods would cut off access to the village because there is only one main road linking it to the Kota Belud town.

"On that day (Dec 17, last year), it so happened that the school teachers wanted to hand over the material to the students in Kampung Pituru and I volunteered to do so.

"To prevent the material from getting wet, I wrapped it in plastic. Car couldn't get through, I had no choice but to wade through the floodwaters," he said.

Meanwhile, the school principal Jainol Sair said the delivery of PdPR material was an offline approach to help students who did not have Internet access at home to continue learning.

He said the school would deliver the PdPR material to students with the help of the Parent-Teacher Association and school guards.
